Declining sales and profits have forced Audi into a situation where it may have to lay off as many as 7,500 personnel by 2029.
The company argues that it will be able to do so in a sustainable way, mostly getting rid of remote workers and jobs not directly involved in vehicle production. By doing so, it hopes to save nearly a billion euros.
At the same time, Audi has announced investing €8 billion into upgrading its existing factories in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm. Both need retrofitting before they can churn out affordable next-gen EVs.
