High-riding Audi A6 allroad makes its long-anticipated comeback

Audi says the revived A6 allroad wagon will be available for ordering in a matter of days, but the deliveries won’t start until the autumn. Prices in Europe will start slightly above €77,000.

Compared to the closely related Audi A6 Avant, the mild off-roader enjoys a 34mm (1.3-inch) increase in standard ride height thanks to new air suspension. From that point, the ground clearance can be raised by a further 15 mm (0.6”) to tackle bad roads or even by 35 mm (1.4”) if you are fine with driving at 35 km/h (21.7 mph) max. Conversely, the suspension can be dropped by 20 mm (0.8”) for highway driving, and even automatically does so when it finds itself on a highway going fast.

In terms of appearance, the A6 allroad immediately sets itself apart from the A6 Avant with a rugged body kit, skid plates and a 111mm (4.4”) increase in body width. The interior and the trim mostly carry over. For instance, the dimmable pano roof, the ergonomic seats with enhanced lumbar support and the Bang&Olufsen premium audio are still available as options.

Customers will be choosing between two powertrains. A 3.0-liter diesel receives assistance from an electric supercharger to send 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) to the wheels along with 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque. A starter-generator contributes its own 24 PS (24 hp / 18 kW) to the total when needed, letting the wagon hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds.

The other version is a plug-in hybrid that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a single electric motor for 367 PS (362 hp / 270 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) total. It manages the standard sprint in 5.5 seconds and provides up to 95 kilometers (59 miles) of range in all-electric mode.
