AUDI’s first ringless SUV previewed in China

Audi has unveiled the second vehicle created by its China-only sub-brand AUDI (written in all caps without the four-ring emblem). It is called the E SUV and is officially considered a concept at this time, but production should begin next year.

Like the AUDI E5 Sportback before it, the E SUV sports a laconic front bumper with an imitated air intake, a black bezel around slim LED headlights, and slanted c-pillars. On the whole, it looks almost identical to the E5 Sportback, just stretched vertically to fill out a frame worthy of an SUV.

The interior remains to be revealed. Given how similar the E SUV is to its liftback cousin, we wouldn’t be surprised at all if it went on sale with the same trim and powertrain choices. The E5 ships with single- and dual-motor setups, but we can imagine the E SUV getting the marque’s top-end AWD powertrain with 787 PS (776 hp / 579 kW). Of course, this remains to be confirmed.

It’s worth noting that the E5 Sportback enjoys brisk sales in China, so the E SUV likely won’t take too much time arriving. In fact, a test vehicle matching its parameters was spotted in China in late October. The photographer claimed it was “around 5 meters long” (16.4 feet), so it’s either full-size or close to that.
