Rare Audi RS 2 recovered from a scrapyard in Portugal

Audi has only ever made 2,891 RS 2 five-door hatchbacks, and one has now been discovered buried in a landfill in Portugal, waiting for the scrap press.

It is unknown who discarded such a rare car and why. Those willing to save it may buy it out, but only for parts and not as a whole car. They may also want to hurry things up, because it may end up scrapped any day now.

The photos show what looks like a battered vehicle, but not quite a complete write-off. The exterior has serious defects, but the interior appears recoverable. There is also no indication that anything is missing – the car looks complete.

The original RS 2 model (see video) was designed based on the classical Audi 80 wagon with some assistance from Porsche. Its 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine made 315 PS (311 hp / 232 kW) and took it 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.8 seconds. The transmission was six-speed manual and drove both axles.
