Drag Race: BMW M340i vs. Audi S5 vs. Genesis G70

A competition between stock cars would be rather boring, but out of these three, only one is stock. Better yet, it has been known to show the taillights to its superiors without any tuning. How will it fare in this race, though?

First to the start line is a BMW M340i armed with a three-liter inline six-cylinder engine rated at 382 PS (377 hp / 281 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. Its performance is not modified in any way, with a stock eight-speed A/T carrying the torque to all four wheels. The curb weight is 1,805 kilos (3,780 pounds).

Then there is a Genesis G70 with a 3.3-liter V6 delivering 420 PS (414 hp / 309 kW) and 542 Nm (400 lb-ft) to both ends through an eight-speed A/T. It is the lightest of the trio at 1,763 kg (3,887 pounds).

Rounding off the group is an Audi S5 packing a 3.0-liter V6 boosted to 397 PS (392 hp / 292 kW) and 666 Nm (491 lb-ft). The transmission and drive type are the same, and the curb weight slots in between the two – 1,788 kg, or 3,942 pounds.

The BMW may be looking like an outsider on paper, but let’s not forget that the Bavarian carmaker has been known to downplay the performance of its cars on multiple occasions.
