Video: Check out an M2 sidling its way through a BMW factory

BMW M has posted a cool Gymkhana-style video from its Munich HQ starring a hardcore M2 coupe built for the Red Bull Driftbrothers.

The car is getting prepped for the next Drift Masters season, and while it looks half-naked in the video, the team says it already has the necessary bodywork in store. Maybe someone didn’t want the expensive aero to get damaged during this reckless bit of factory racing fun, so they asked to take them off. We won’t know.

And if the stunts in the vid seem unnecessarily dangerous to you, then you are not alone. The driver, Elias Hountondji, said after the filming that he felt “great responsibility” curving his way around equipment and machinery worth millions of euros. It didn’t help that the coupe’s stock 3.0-liter inline-six was boosted to almost double the power and torque – 1,100 PS (1,085 hp / 809 kW) and 1,250 Nm (922 lb-ft).

On an interesting side note, the latest BMW M2 is actually not produced in Munich, but in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The company just felt that the German plant was a more “iconic” location to show in the video. Starting in 2027, BMW Munich will switch from ICE car production to EVs, at least, according to the company’s current strategy.
