In its factory guise, the latest BMW M3 can do 250 km/h (155 mph) in a straight line, and you can opt for the M Driver’s Package to raise the electronic limit to 290 km/h (180 mph). But what if you remove it altogether? AutoTopNL just found this out.
As the video shows, the new M3 can do 315 km/h (195.7 mph) down the autobahn, or 310 km/h (192.6 mph) if you would rather believe a smartphone’s GPS module instead of the car’s own odometer. However, we have issues finding the testing methods clean.
In addition to having its top speed cap removed, the sedan also had its stock exhaust swapped for a Frequency Intelligent Exhaust system, its gasoline soot filter removed and an Arma Speed cold air intake system installed with carbon-fiber intakes. This makes us wonder if the acceleration shown in the test was possible without these further modifications. On the other hand, it’s not like we rip down the autobahn at 300+ every day, anyway, right?
