BMW unveiled the estate-bodied M3 in June 2022. The car is nearly identical to the sedan except for its larger, more practical trunk. Joe Achilles wondered whether it would be much slower on the uptake compared to the saloon version.
Both M3s utilize the same 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine rated at 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque, letting them have that ‘driver’s car’ feel and sprint like it’s track time.
In both cases, a ZF eight-speed auto transmission carries the momentum to all four wheels through a hydraulic torque convertor and xDrive AWD. Both wear identical Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
There are only differences: the saloon has a carbon-fiber top, making it 85 kg (187 lbs) lighter than stock, while the Touring features a carbon-ceramic brake system weighing 10 kg (22 lbs) less than stock.
How do you think the two line up against each other?
