BMW unveils a one-off Shooting Brake study

The BMW Concept Touring Coupe hit the spotlight at the Concours d’Elegance Villa d'Este at the banks of Lake Como, Italy this weekend. Just as we expected, it ran on Z4 Roadster underpinnings.

What used to be a standard Z4 transformed into a Shooting Brake two-seater with a spacious trunk. Per Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Design Director, the proportions and the name of the design study were meant to pay homage to the 328 Touring Coupe that won the Mille Miglia race back in 1940. It was also designed with a nod to the BMW 02 Series Touring from the 1970s.

The car is a handmade one-off finished in a special shade of greyish brown dubbed Sparkling Lario. It has unique ‘kidney grilles’ composed of twin vertical bars and rides on bespoke 20-inch wheels sized 20” front and 21” rear.

The interior layout stays the same overall. The trim involves two shades of Poltrona Frau brown leather made in Italy, which is perforated and adorned with braided straps on the seats.

The trunk space is also lined with leather and houses a bag set designed by Schedoni, an atelier from Modena.

There are no technical details, but BMW mentions an I6 engine underneath that hood, which implies the range-topping Z4 M40i spec. Not that it is relevant to us buyers, because there will be no mass production.
