The Bavarian company has announced the end of production of its Z4 Roadster. With no replacement in sight, BMW once again deprives its lineup of its last droptop.
The third and last generation of the Z4 had been in production since 2018 (see video). It used to ship with a turbocharged inline-four and a similar inline-six, offering a choice between six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic for the transmission. The first generation saw the daylight in 2003.
Aside from the 4-Series roadster, BMW produced open-top vehicles based on its 3-Series (the Z1) and the deluxe 8-Series (the Z8). The former had stayed in production for less than three years, though, and the latter was a strictly limited edition from the start.
The company confirmed that there are no current plans for another roadster. A little while ago, BMW formally discontinued the 8-Series Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible in pretty much the same fashion.
