Bugatti Veyron owner saves $155k on OEM wheels and tires

A resident of Georgia, USA has shared his experience replacing the wheels on his Bugatti Veyron. Rather than go for the manufacturer’s own $160,000+ set, he ordered cheap forged wheels from China for 1/30th of the price.

To be specific, Bugatti recommends $120,000 custom wheels and $40,000 Michelin PAX tires for the Veyron. The owner listened to this advice once, but that was eight years ago. This time around, he went for staggered rims made in China, sized 20 inches large at the front and 21 inches at the back. He paid $3,700 for a full set and topped it off with some regular Michelin rubber.

In doing so, he avoided a costly visit to Bugatti for the PAX tire replacement. PAX tires are mounted on the car in an extremely convoluted and specific way, so you can’t just fit them at your nearest tire shop. According to Bugatti, only a handful of PAX tire-fitting machines exit worldwide, including one in France and one in the entirety of the United States.

Once re-shod, the ride became smoother and quieter, at least according to the driver. In the video here, he also points out better braking and overall handling. As a downside, tire pressure control no longer works and it’s impossible to accelerate to the Veyron’s top speed, which lies north of 400 km/h (250 mph).
