General Motors has released the facelifted Buick Regal in China. The car being touted as ‘all-new’ is essentially just a face-swap of the sedan introduced at Auto Shanghai six years ago.
In its second facelift version, the Regal gets a larger trapezoid grille that makes it look like Buick’s LaCrosse and other recent models. Slim vertical air openings at the sides are highlighted with chrome, and the three-shield logo above the grille is new, too.
You may have already seen the exterior when the first photos were released in mid-July, but the interior has been concealed until now. The reason is anyone’s guess, however, because everything except the steering wheel hub logo stayed exactly the same. This includes analog gauges and a small display squeezed in between the air vents. Even the cheaper Envista CUV comes with a large standalone display that doubles as a dashboard and the infotainment screen.
The wheelbase amounts to 2,829 mm (110.5 inches) – the same as the Buick Regal Sportback, Opel Insignia and Holden Commodore models, all of which share the same platform and are no longer being produced. The engine choices are also nothing new: there is a 1.5-liter mill good for 169 PS (167 hp / 124 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) and a 2.0-liter one with 237 PS (234 hp / 174 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft). Both are bundled with nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive system – no other options.
Prices start from 159,800 Yuan for the base trim and 175,800 for the premium one.
