The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has officially announced that Chinese car manufacturing corporation BYD will be its next mobility partner and supplier of electric vehicles to the hosts and guests of the next championship scheduled to take place in Germany this summer.
Volkswagen, which had earlier struck a multi-year partnership agreement with the UEFA, decided not to prolong the deal last September.
The idea of the organizing party behind this year’s championship is to make it the eco-friendliest UEFA season in history. Partnering up with BYD seems like the perfect way to do so, because the Chinese company is currently the worldwide leader in electric vehicle production. In October–December 2023, BYD has sold over 500,000 EVs, surpassing even Tesla.
The new deal allows the Chinese automaker to freely demonstrate its products and technologies during the championship. The brand will be present in the fan zone as well, broadcasting football games in real time, and will be hosting hundreds of thematic events across roughly 230 car dealerships spanning 19 European countries.
