The BYD Seagull is already available on its domestic market starting from 78,000 Yuan.
The car is sized 3,780 x 1,715 x 1,540 mm. An unusual and slightly aggressive exterior design lends it a tinge of sportiness, while the trims on the doors, wheels and lower bumpers make it resemble a crossover SUV. While not official, the local media speculate that the Seagull may become available outside of China later on.
As one would expect of a city car, the interior is rather simple and makes do without expensive trim materials and options. You can still order a wireless charging pad for your smartphone, a five-inch digital dash panel and an infotainment system with a large 12.8-inch display.
For the motor, you can settle for a 75-PS (74-hp / 55-kW) default option or pay extra for 101 PS (100 hp / 75 kW). The batteries are rather small at 30 and 38 kilowatt-hours, but the low weight and small size of the car still give it plenty of range, per the manufacturer – 306 km (190 miles) with the smaller pack and 405 km (251 miles) in the Long Range version.
The Seagull is also the first BYD car to take advantage of the sodium-ion battery cell type, which is cheaper to manufacture than lithium-ion.
