Paramount Group has released the second generation of its Marauder SUV, calling it the Mark 2. The new army car is said to be easier to assemble and drive, as well as harder to destroy.
Judging by the photos and the video, the exterior stays virtually the same as before. The all-terrain vehicle weighs in at nearly 10 metric tons (22,000 lbs) with all the liquids in and can carry or tow an additional 6 tons (13,200 lbs). It boasts 420 mm (16.4 inches) of ground clearance and around 700 kilometers (435 miles) of driving range on a single tank of fuel.
With the assembly lines finally optimized, Paramount can now produce right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive cars on the same industrial equipment. Furthermore, moving the wheel to the other side is possible after the fact and takes a few hours of work in a car shop.
The vehicle benefits from ballistic and anti-mine armor and features a monocoque cabin that can protect the passengers inside from bullets and grenade explosions from below.
The original Marauder debuted 15 years ago as a concept and went into production in 2008. Only around 300 units has been released so far. Customers can choose between a MAN diesel engine rated at 240 PS (237 hp / 177 kW) and its Cummins-badged alternative capable of 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW). The inside space accommodates up to 10 people, including the driver. The top speed varies between 100 and 120 km/h (62 – 75 mph) depending on your chosen options.
