A most unusual car pretending to be a Chevrolet Corvette cropped up on sale in Scotland earlier this week boasting a passing semblance to the original and an asking price as low as £2,300 (around $2,800).
The donor car is none other than the Volkswagen Type 3 straight from the 1960s (see video). It received a full exterior makeover with hand-made body panels finished in red and a black Targa top. The creator – a blacksmith by trade – admitted that he had always dreamed about buying a genuine Corvette but could never quite afford one. In the end, he did his best to build a replica, but missed the mark with the proportions.
Powering the approximately six-decades-old ride is its standard engine with around 48,000 km (30,000 miles) of use on it. Despite the modest mileage, the drivetrain may need a major overhaul, since the car had spent around half its life parked motionless in a barn.
And what’s your opinion on this homegrown car? Would you buy one for the low asking price?
