This 58-year-old Chevy Corvette should handle no worse than modern

Mecum Auctions will be offering this 1967 Chevrolet C2 Corvette Sting Ray for sale in two weeks’ time. It is a restomod swapped to a 7.1-liter V8 with a manual transmission and overhauled steering.

The car retains its iconic exterior, but glossy panels, gill-like air vents, flared fenders and a clean overall aesthetic enable anyone with even a little experience to recognize it as a restomod. Pop-up headlights are a nice touch, as they can improve drag on the track, and the listing points out serious brake and suspension upgrades as well.

All power for the build comes from a 7.1-liter naturally aspirated V8 upgraded with forged components, alloy cylinder heads and controlled injection. A five-speed manual transmission carries the torque to the rear axle. We don’t know how much it makes, but power steering and other modernity-dictated upgrades should make this C2 Corvette every bit as agile around the track as any recent sports car.

The interior features ergonomic sports seats draped in leather and has a climate control system on board for hot summers. The odometer seems to show 1,692 miles (2,723 km) of use, but there’s no mention of it being total mileage as opposed to post-restoration.
