2023 Chevrolet Trax previewed in the USA, starts under $22k

Chevrolet has unveiled the refreshed Trax SUV set to reach the showrooms in the United States next spring. The base trim starts at $21,495.

The exterior of the new Trax takes after the latest Blazer: note especially the DRLs sitting close to the hood cover and the large trapezoid air intake in the lower apron. There are a few differences, too, including two-tier headlights with the main lamps installed in the outer corners.

The new Trax targets drivers who want the practicality of a compact car combined with the utility of an SUV. It is 4,540 mm (177.3 inches) long with 2.7 meters (105 inches) of wheelbase.

The low specs Ls and 1RS make do with a small 8-inch infotainment display. The higher LT, 2RS and Activ specs increase the diagonal size to 11 inches. The top trims also come with heated seats, remote engine start, climate control and wireless phone charging.

The only engine available in the USA is a 1.2-liter turbocharged inline three-cylinder unit rated at 137 hp (139 hp; 103 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed auto gearbox drives the front wheels with no AWD option. The sprint from zero to 97 km/h (60 mph) takes 8.6 seconds.
