A company called Stripped Down Street Rods has put its latest creation up for sale, and it’s quite a looker. Based on a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 platform, it incorporates styling cues of the 1963 C2 Corvette Split Window. Mecum will get it on the block in Las Vegas on November 15; there are no price estimates.
On the outside, the sports car resembles a sculpture more than it does a means of transportation. With no panels to show aside from the roof and the windshield, it has all of its internals on display, including the engine and the suspension. The tubular frame doesn’t strike us as minimalistic or practical, either: whoever designed it must have thought about making a fashion statement, not reaching any compliance standards. A bit disappointingly, we don’t know how much the thing weighs.
What we do know is that it uses a giant 7.0-liter LS7 V8 for propulsion, The naturally aspirated mill outputs 508 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) and should be enough for some wild, breezy rides. The interior is predictably basic, but still has a proper Momo steering wheel, bucket seats with four-point safety harnesses, and a short-throw gear switch. The rest of the transmission and tech are standard Z06, or so we’re told.
While there is no rear window, you can still guess the C2 Split Window was the inspiration as soon as you look at the tube pattern at the back. And if the numerous YouTube videos are any indication, the car is actually street-legal, even if the listing fails to mention it.
