SBX Cars in Austin, TX is selling a 600-hp (373-kW) restomod that took around 5,000 hours to create. Original Pantera coupes can reach €276,000 ($321,000) in Europe depending on the condition, and this one could have similar value.
De Tomaso produced the car in 1972 with a 5.8-liter Ford V8 under the hood. The naturally aspirated engine delivered nearly 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) to the wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The coupe sprinted from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under six seconds and could eventually hit 262 km/h (162 mph).
This particular restomod, known as ADRNLN, was commissioned by a Nike, Inc. executive from Ringbrothers. The famous Wisconsin auto shop rebodied the car using handmade carbon-fiber panels and sprayed the result in a vivid shade of yellow.
The Ford engine was swapped out for a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 by General Motors. It was tuned to 608 PS (600 hp / 447 kW) and hooked to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Chevrolet C5 Corvette donated the suspension, while Baer provided four-piston brake calipers.
In a twist of fancy, the client who commissioned the job ordered the driver’s side to be trimmed in all black and the passenger’s side in cheery yellow. They also went for a combination of digital and analog instruments for the dashboard. Shortly after its completion in 2013, the car was resold for U.S. $300,000.
The bidding has reached $150,000 so far.
