Report: Dodge Challenger to get ample ICE powertrain variants

According to The Drive quoting an anonymous source inside the company, Dodge has no intention to release its next-gen Charger and Challenger cars as EVs: a number of internal combustion engines will continue to be available, including an inline six-cylinder option with a new A/T and AWD.

The general expectation is that Dodge will base both muscle cars on its new platform dubbed STLA Large, which accommodates electric powertrains best but allows for traditional engines, too. Insiders are saying that both models will end up with a Hurricane-series inline-six mill mated to the company’s signature eight-speed automatic transmission updated to a new standard.

In both cases, buyers will be choosing between RWD and AWD, the source is reporting. All production will allegedly take place in Canada where Dodge has been upgrading its assembly lines for a while now. The availability dates remain unknown.
