Reports: Dodge’s ultimate Charger EV dead before it could debut

The all-time strongest Dodge Charger Daytona “Banshee” is not coming to the market at all, Mopar Insiders claims quoting parts vendors who allegedly received a formal project closure notification. The automaker has yet to comment.

The first rumors about the Banshee leaked three years ago. Insiders claimed it was envisioned with three electric motors rated between 800 and 900 horsepower (600–670 kilowatts) in total. Reportedly, Dodge was also planning to switch this version from the more mundane 400V power architecture to the high-end 800V standard for ultra-fast charging.

It now looks like the company realized it had no way of selling enough regular Daytona EVs, let alone an extreme model all but guaranteed to cost north of $100,000.

In an earlier communication, Dodge confirmed that Stellantis was still busy reviewing its entire product strategy from the ground up based on the current market and the customers’ priorities. It also admitted that the last summer’s plans to revive the SRT nameplate would likely need to wait.

It looks like the automaker’s Charger Daytona range of electric muscle cars will stop growing at just one model – the 670-PS (661-hp / 493-kW) Scat Pack. Earlier promises of a relatively affordable 496-PS (489-hp / 365-kW) R/T spec will have to remain just that – promises.

At the same time, Dodge seems content with developing its ICE lineup further. While the latest generation rides on inline-six power, the next one may bring back the coveted V8.
