Video: Watch the unhinged Dodge Viper rally build hit the road for the first time

Matt Brown, the host of SuperFastMatt on YouTube, has spent over a year turning the dangerously fast Dodge Viper into a Safari-style rally racer. The truly unique car has now completed its first road tests before venturing off-road.

According to Matt, he decided not to go the easy way of putting a supercar body on top of a truck chassis and calling it a day. Instead, he preserved the Viper’s original chassis and tilted the drivetrain slightly down at the rear end. This necessitated cutting and welding the frame. The suspension wound up with new knuckles and control arms, and the wheels were secured from excessive drooping with straps.

Major modifications were made in the brakes and exhaust departments, too. The whole exhaust system had to be rerouted slightly higher up to maintain high clearance. Last but not least, Matt wanted to install a custom gear lever that a fan sent him, but making it work with the car’s electronics proved tricky and he reverted to the OEM lever for the time being.
