Bonhams Auctions will try to find a new owner for a particularly elusive Koenig 512 BBi, one out of only 20–30 such Berlinetta Boxers tuned at Koenig Special in Germany in the 1980s. Accounts vary as to how many of these cars actually saw the daylight, but this example is evaluated at a low £85k–90k ($113,500–120,000) due to a handful of issues.
The stock 512i model left the Maranello assembly line packing a 5.0-liter injection V12 capable of 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW). Koenig rebuilt the engine from the ground up to raise the output to approximately 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW). Every car also received a widebody kit with improved aero performance (see video).
The example on sale was commissioned by a driver from Germany. It left the country for the United States several years later, and then proceeded to change multiple owners. In 2015, someone brought it back into Europe, but the UK this time around. It had spent the last decade standing still, never started or driven, with over 38,000 kilometers (23,600 miles) under its belt.
According to the listing, the 512 BBi should be drivable again after a thorough round of engine maintenance. It also needs a fresh set of tires and could use cosmetic exterior and interior repairs – both have seen better days.
