Mysterious Portofino test mule spied testing

Given that the Ferrari Portofino hardtop saw the daylight three years ago, it would only make sense for it to get a facelift soon. However, the spy photos made today on a road somewhere in Italy prompt a question: why bother with the disguise if the car looks exactly the same?

Speaking of probable changes, Ferrari may want to bolster the 3.9-liter V8 from its current 600 hp (447 kW) to the 620 hp (462 kW) of its new Roma coupe. The 2021 Portofino may also ditch its seven-speed DCT in favor of the latter model’s eight-speed design. Either case, it should premiere sometime later this year.

There is another, moderately crazy theory concerning these spy pics: the Italian automaker just might be using the Portofino body to test the chassis of its upcoming Purosangue SUV. Rumors used to circulate that the utility vehicle would be based on the Roma platform.
