Ford F-150 Lightning breaks through four-second sprint time

Ford has taken to its media pages to confirm that the F-150 Lightning could sprint 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in under four seconds. The company never mentioned a precise time, but it looks like its first electric truck is now officially on par with most of the world’s performance cars.

Earlier estimations from Ford said the pickup would be able to launch 0-60 mph in roughly 4.5 seconds, but the reality proved even more interesting. It is worth noting that the fast acceleration is only available for the buyers of the top specs (XLT or Lariat) optioned with a larger battery pack. Another alternative would be the Platinum spec, which already includes the large battery in the standard equipment list. It is unclear how much slower the launch is with the smaller pack.

When the F-150 Lightning reached production in April, Ford revealed that it would produce more power and torque than originally anticipated. The base spec went from 426 to 452 U.S. horsepower, while the top spec rose from 563 to 580 hp.

As popular as the Lightning is, it continues to be plagued by supply chain issues affecting its price. Not long ago, the automaker had to ramp up the base price by $7,100 due to these issues.
