Novelties
Just as Christmas keeps drawing near, Ford has posted a video revealing all the relevant details about the seventh generation of the Mustang. Both the coupe and the convertible hit the spotlight in September, but the company never said how much power they packed.
It is now official that the lineup starts with a next-gen 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-pot turbo rated at 319 PS (315 hp / 235 kW) and 475 Nm (350 lb-ft) of torque. The mill is both more powerful and fuel-efficient than its predecessor, although the difference amounts to a meager 5 horsepower.
Next up the line is a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V8 powering the Mustang GT lineup with 487 PS (480 hp / 358 kW) and 564 Nm (416 lb-ft) of torque. It has also been improved compared to the previous generation, although the older Bullit and Mach 1 editions already offered the same 487 PS at the crank. Opting for a valve-controlled exhaust system raises the numbers to 493 PS (486 hp / 363 kW) and 566 Nm (417 lb-ft) of torque.
Dominating the range is the Mustang Dark Horse, a car designed by Ford Performance with the mandatory GT Performance Pack installed. It features a widebody kit, upgraded suspension and six-piston Brembo brake calipers at the front end. The engine under the hood has the same V8 block, but benefits from optimizations aimed at withstanding higher operational pressures. It pumps out 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) and 566 Nm (417 lb-ft), making it the company’s most powerful non-turbo V8 in history – at least, unless you count the Shelby brand.
The sales will begin next summer.
