Car Tuning

This Ford Ranger is a heavy off-roader and a motorhome at once

German tuning company called Auriga Explorer has unveiled a rather unusual and expensive looking project car – a previous-gen Ford Ranger lugging a spacious living module on its bed and also outfitted for wilderness traversal.

The so-called Voyager is 5.85 m (228.5 inches) long, 2.1 m (82 in) wide and 2.25 m (87.9 in) tall when packed up for travel. The wheelbase isn’t any different from the standard Ford Ranger, so it’s impressive that it manages to offer 8 square meters (86.1 square feet) of living space and 205 cm (80 inches) of ceiling height when deployed.

According to the company, the vehicle can accommodate four adults on two double beds. It also has enough sitting space for six people with the beds folded. There is a mini-shower inside, a toilet, a water recycling system for long trips and numerous luggage spaces. A kitchenette with two burners and an oven is also provided. Too bad no interior shots have been published yet.

On the outside, the Voyager looks like a serious overlanding machine with its flared fenders, meaty off-road tires and heavy-duty suspension. It helps that the living module is trimmed with lightweight glass-fiber panels instead of metal.

There has been no mention of pricing, but the company plans to produce multiple motorhomes like this. The production will take place in Germany, but preorders are being accepted from all over the world because the truck just fits into a standard marine shipping container.
