Official: Ford S-Max and Galaxy to retire in 2023

Ford has released an official statement confirming that the production of the S-Max and Galaxy minivans will be over next spring, with no direct descendants to replace either. Declining demand and total electrification are quoted as the main reasons.

The Ford Galaxy made its European debut in 1996 as a seven-seat MPV co-designed with Volkswagen. Another iteration came to the market 10 years later based on the Mondeo platform. The total sales in Europe have so far reached 820,000 units.

A sportier minivan named the S-Max was introduced in 2006 and has since found 570,000 buyers. The sales took a nosedive last year, with Ford moving only 7,400 S-Max units in Europe. Galaxy sales were nearly twice as poor over the same period.
