X90 joins the Proton SUV lineup in Malaysia

Malaysia-based car brand Proton is celebrating turning 40 years old this year. Since its acquisition by Geely Group, the company has been actively rebadging Chinese cars, and the large X90 SUV revealed this week is no exception.

The model is based on the Geely Haoyue with a different radiator grille, headlights, smaller trim parts and badging all around. It is identical to the Haoyue inside the cabin, unless you count that the steering wheel is now installed at the right-hand side. The instrument display is 10 inches large and the infotainment screen measures 12.3 inches corner-to-corner.

By default, the X90 is a seven-seater with a bench seat in the middle row, but the top trim level offers six individual seats instead.

Powering the ride is a 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder engine supported by a starter-generator. A seven-speed DCT sends 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels.
