Honda CR-V finally loops back to Japan

Starting on Friday, December 12, Honda will accept preorders for its CR-V crossover in Japan. The model had mainly been on sale in the United States until recently, and the Japanese domestic buyers are getting it in two standard trims with two styling packages available for a premium.

The new CR-V debuted at the Japan Mobility Show this spring (see video). Unlike its North American counterpart, the Japanese CR-V won’t be offered with the “rugged” TrailSport package. Instead, it will be available in RS and RS Black Edition variants. Both come with a 10.2-inch digital dashboard, a 9-inch infotainment display, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, heated seats and a wireless phone charger.

The RS Black Edition adds 19-nich wheels to the mix, blackout trim all around, a panoramic sunroof, seat ventilation and an improved Sensing 360 ADAS package (as opposed to the base Sensing package in the RS spec).

Those who find the exterior of the car too tame may opt for one of two available packages. Tough Premium is supposed to be installed on top of the Black Edition, adding rugged-looking trim bits all around and really nothing else of note. In turn, Urban Premium aims at creating a more fashionable look for the city dwellers in modern Japan.

Full powertrain details remain to be announced. In Japan, the CR-V will be offered as a hybrid crossover that combines a 2.0-liter engine with a single electric motor and an e-CVT. The drive is on the front axle by default, but AWD is available, too.
Shipments are scheduled for February 2026. All prices are pending.
