Many different opinions have been voiced about the latest Honda Prelude. Some praise it for handling, comfort and overall driving enjoyment. Others slam it for a lackluster 204-PS (201-hp / 150-kW) Civic hybrid system underneath and an unrealistic $43,200 asking price in the United States.
M-TEC, a Japanese tuning company better known by its product brand Mugen, decided to heat up the lukewarm Prelude with the help of a body kit. It is made from carbon fiber and consists of a front splitter, a rear diffuser, two rear spoilers, side sill extensions and side mirror covers, not counting some smaller details. Lightweight wheels and a sports exhaust system are also included.
Only 16 such kits will be made available, and a lottery will be held to determine who gets to fork over ¥1.65 million for each. That’s $10,500 in American currency.
It’s probably worth noting that in Japan, the new Prelude has actually been a sales hit. Honda reported getting 2,400 orders despite only having enough open slots for 300 or so cars in the first production year. Things look very different in the United States, however, with only 174 new Preludes finding an owner in December 2025.
