Hongqi teases HS6 SUV

The Chinese premium automaker is getting ready to unveil a mid-size crossover SUV called the HS6. It is styled and sized similarly to its gas-powered HS7 counterpart (see video), but uses a hybrid powertrain.

According to AutoHome.cn quoting a spec sheet, the HS6 will ship with a 1.5-liter engine rated at 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) and an all-wheel-drive system. It’s still unclear how many electric motors there are and whether the engine is linked to the wheels or just used as a generator. There are multiple batteries listed with ranges from 123 to 205 km (76–127 miles).

Both the teasers and the certification photos make it clear that Hongqi is updating its design language with the HS6. It sports a rather modest-sized grille instead of a much larger old version, revamped headlights and stylish L-shaped DRLs. There seem to be air intakes at both sides of the bumper where lower headlight units usually are. The whole car measures 4,925 x 1,970 x 1,740 mm with 2,925 mm of wheelbase, which is only 70 mm (2.7 inches) shorter than the HS7 with the same wheelbase.

It is possible that Hongqi will bring the HS6 to Europe. Earlier this month, the company confirmed an intention to start offering 15 different cars in 25 EU countries before 2028.
