3rd-gen Hyundai i20 bows in South America

The next generation of Hyundai’s i20 five-door hatchback is slated to reach the showrooms in Brazil before the end of the year. It will be obtainable with an X Line styling package and will start just under 100,000 Real ($19,730).

Compared to the previous generation, the Mk3 is 83 millimeters (3.3 inches) longer with unchanged wheelbase. In absolute terms, it is 4,130 mm (162.6 inches) long with 2,580 mm (101.6 inches) separating the axles.

The exterior corresponds to Hyundai’s latest design language with a slightly more modern and angular aesthetic. Both the headlights and the taillights are now linked with LED strips, and the DRLs are Y-shaped. Opting for the X Line pack gets you a “rugged” unpainted plastic body kit all around the lower body and a modest increase in ground clearance.

Inside, a pair of 12.3-inch displays united under the same pane of glass sits on the dashboard. The infotainment system now supports OTA updates, and the trunk size amounts to 346 liters (12.22 cubic feet).

Engine-wise, customers in South America will be choosing between a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder unit rated at 80 PS (79 hp / 59 kW) and its turbocharged variant producing up to 115 PS (113 hp / 86 kW). The former comes bundles with a five-speed manual gearbox, and the latter gets a six-speed one. Both take petrol and ethanol for fuel, as usual.
