Ineos Grenadier gets ready to challenge the worst wilderness

Ineos Automotive, a carmaker whose Grenadier SUV is a love letter to the classical Land Rover Defender, has launched a new variant of it called the Trailmaster X. It’s being marketed as the ultimate off-roading machine and starts from around €90,000, so roughly €20,000 above the standard model.

The premium sure looks big, but buyers get a lot in exchange for their money. There’s a snorkel for wading deep water, a roof access ladder at the back, a winch rated at 5.5 metric tons (12,125 lbs) and a towing hook, just to name a few highlights. The 17-inch wheels seemingly stay stock, but get shod in new BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tires.

The interior also gets a premium makeover with proper leather seats all around, heated seats in the front row, a two-tone color scheme and a high-end audio system.

All power continues to be sourced from a 3.0-liter inline-six engine made by BMW. As with the regular Grenadier, the Trailmaster X offers a choice between gasoline and diesel. An eight-speed transmission carries the torque to all four wheels via a permanent AWD system, reduction gear and three differential locks.
