Mopar, a Stellantis-owned tuning division specializing in aftermarket accessories and performance parts for cars, has unveiled a rather intriguing electric Jeep for the impending SEMA show.
The restomod lacks a powerful V8 or any other combustion engine, for that matter, because it runs on electric power alone. The show car was designed to preview transmission details that Mopar plans to use for its future electromod builds.
The vintage Jeep off-roader pictured here uses a brand-new powertrain design with 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) hitting all four wheels. The drivetrain is mounted on the frame of the car using purpose-designed, sturdy mounts. A dual-range transfer case conveys the momentum.
The charging port resides right behind the driver-side door. The battery pack is rated for 50 kilowatt-hours of capacity, but Mopar does not reveal any range or performance figures in its announcement. Perhaps we will learn more at the SEMA, though.
According to its developers, the CJ Surge Concept was built with overlanding performance in mind. To that end, it comes equipped with 35-inch BF Goodrich tires, Jeep Performance Parts Dana 44 Crate axles at both ends, Wrangler JK Rubicon bumpers and a Warn winch.
