Jeep recalls 200k Grand Cherokee and Wrangler hybrids

Jeep has announced a recall campaign for roughly 200,000 Grand Cherokee 4xe and Wrangler 4xe SUVs. A software error may lead to the windshield defrost system not working as intended.

The issue affects a total of 59,825 Grand Cherokee units manufactured from July 23, 2021 until December 5, 2023, and 139,318 Wrangler units made from September 2, 2020 until August 24, 2023. All newer cars have the issue already fixed, Motor1 reports.

A company representative pointed out that it was an ECU error that led to the windshield fogging up instead of defrosting on all affected units. Jeep never explained what the engine control unit had to do with the car’s windows in the first place, but confirmed that updating it fixes the issue.

All affected owners will receive a service notice before April 5, 2024.
