Kia gets a compact performance SUV EV ready for Q1 2027 launch

The small and powerful Kia EV2 Concept debuted at the EV Day event last winter, with the Korean automaker promising to start deliveries in early 2025. Carscoops now claims quoting rumors that it will be offered in two specs – standard and GT.

The EV2 GT will allegedly ship with two electric motors mounted one per axle and rated between 250–300 PS (247–296 hp; 184–221 kW). It will sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around five seconds and travel 435 km (270 miles) on a charge using the same 55-kWh battery pack as the already-available EV3.

The same sources claim that the EV2 GT will ship with upgraded brakes, steering and suspension to handle its considerable power. As for the “normal” version, it will likely make do with a single front-axle motor and either 150 or 200 PS (148–197 hp; 110–147 kW). Kia may target a 7.5-second sprint time for it.

The latest EV3 and EV5 models come based on the latest iteration of Kia’s E-GMP platform powered by 400V internals. Both support fast charging, and the upcoming EV2 should also support V2L (Vehicle-to-Load, a feature letting owners power up external devices from their car).

Back when the EV2 Concept debuted last winter, Kia hadn’t revealed any technical details. It only speculated that it would be priced around €30,000 in Europe. Since this isn’t exactly low-end, we suppose there could be still room in the lineup for an EV1.
