According to Carscoops quoting what appears to be Kia’s leaked product plan, the Korean automaker plans to introduce a powerful long-range electric sedan as a successor-of-sorts to the retired Stinger lineup. It is known inside the company as the GT1 and should go on sale in 2026 under the name “EV8” (unconfirmed).
Rumor has it the Kia EV8 will be based on an innovative technological platform known as the eM. It is expected to debut in 2025 along with the Genesis GV90 and later provide the basis for multiple Hyundai and Kia EVs. The company is currently using a different platform, called the E-GMP.
According to the plan, the GT1 is envisioned with a dual-motor powertrain capable of 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW). This would make it more powerful than the current EV6 SUV, which maxes out at 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) in the GT spec.
Another interesting detail is that the battery is specified as having 113.2 kWh of capacity and delivering 700–800 km (435–497 miles) of range per charge. The current longest-range Kia EV – the maxed-out EV9 – makes do with a smaller 99.8-kWh pack that’s only enough for 541 km (336 miles).
