Reports: Koenigsegg Gemera to have a V8, whopping 2,300 PS

Swedish automaker Koenigsegg has commissioned a new factory where it plans to produce its first four-door car, the Gemera. Speaking at the opening event, CEO Christian von Koenigsegg shed some light on the upcoming ‘mega-GT’.

According to Koenigsegg Registry, an unofficial group assembling brand-related reports and rumors, the Gemera will differ considerably from its original prototype dating three years back (see video). The main news here is a new powertrain option.
The original design involved a Freevalve 2.0-liter, three-cylinder engine outfitted with electro-pneumatic actuators working in tandem with three electric motors for a combined 1,700 PS (1,677 hp / 1,250 kW) and 3,500 Nm (2,581 lb-ft) of torque.

According to the latest reports, adding a $400,000 premium to the $1,700,000 starting price will get you a V8 engine instead for a total of 2,300 PS (2,269 hp / 1,692 kW). The torque will have to stay capped at 2,750 Nm (2,028 lb-ft) in this configuration, though. Opting for this spec will result in a weight-to-power ratio of 0.77 kilograms per horsepower.

While the standard spec uses the company’s signature gearbox-free transmission known as Koenigsegg Direct Drive (the Regera model uses it), the V8 Gemera comes with an LSTT 9-speed AT. The details are scarce, but it sounds like a modified LST (Light Speed Transmission) of the Koenigsegg Jesko. Earlier on, the manufacturer had reused the LST in the CC850 racer.

All buyers of the Gemera hypercar will be offered a trim package called Ghost, which adds a larger front splitter, a rear wing and other aero-enhancing parts. The car has a small frunk where you can put a medium-sized suitcase, but the company warns that installing the Ghost Package further reduces its volume.
