Now Official: Koenigsegg gets ready to set a new world record

Koenigsegg has announced its intention to set a new acceleration record among street-legal production cars worldwide. The attempt will be made with the Swedish automaker’s latest-and-greatest hypercar to date, the Jesko Absolut, whose top speed is estimated at 530 km/h (330 mph).

Having said that, the company believes that it is still recognizes as the manufacturer of the world’s fastest production car despite controversial claims made by other automakers. Six years ago, the Koenigsegg Agera RS made two straight-line runs averaging 447 km/h (278 mph).

Later on, Bugatti and SSC Tuatara both reported beating that record. However, SSC Tuatara never provided the definitive proof of its record, while Bugatti’s Chiron Super Sport 300+ only made a single run in a single direction. The commonly recognized racing regulations state that two runs must be done in the opposite directions to exclude such interfering factors as surface inclination, wind speed, and so on.

The Jesko Absolut debuted in the spring of 2020 with a custom body kit and an engine rated at 1,622 PS (1,600 hp / 1,193 kW). The company is still wrapping up pre-production tests, but the announcement made this week makes us optimistic about their progress. In all likelihood, the Jesko Absolut is nearly ready to hit the market and set a new world record.
