Lesser-known budget alternative to the Lambo Countach crops up on sale

Only 410 examples of the Lamborghini Jalpa emerged in the 1980s, billed as somewhat cheaper and less sophisticated vehicles for those who could not afford a genuine Countach. One of these has now gone on sale in the United States with barely any mileage on.

If the Countach commanded a powerful V12 back in the ‘80s, the Jalpa made do with a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V8 good for 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW) or so. It came bundled with a five-speed manual gearbox and needed around six seconds to go from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph).

The seller claims that this particular example was one of roughly 100 made for North America, and one out of only seven such cars to be finished in an exclusive shade of yellow known as Giallo Fly. The original owner had it upgraded with an OEM rear wing, a Targa roof section and 16-inch OZ Racing wheels. An aftermarket CD player and a custom gear shifter were added later on, but the listing insists that the coupe wasn’t tuned to any significant degree.

Offered on Bring a Trailer with 4,900 km (3,045 miles) under its belt, the Jalpa currently sits at $70,000 with four days left on the auction clock.
