Study finds the most troublesome SUVs and crossovers

UK magazine What Car? and MotorEasy have teamed up on a study aimed to determine the 20 least reliable used SUVs and crossovers in the country. To accomplish that, they have polled 24,000 owners of 6- to 20-year-old cars about their experiences.

The Land Rover Discovery 3 and 4 topped the ranking as the worst used vehicles to invest in. They were followed, in this particular order, by the first-gen Peugeot 2008, the Land Rover Discovery Sport, first-gen Range Rover Evoque, third-gen Nissan X-Trail, first-gen Ford Kuga, second-gen Nissan Qashqai with the petrol engine, the first-gen Audi Q7, and the 2013–2018MY Dacia Duster.

The list went on to mention (from worst to least bad) the diesel-powered first-gen Nissan Qashqai and BMW X1, Hyundai Santa Fe Mk3, Range Rover Mk4, Kia Sorento Mk2, Volkswagen Tiguan Mk1, BMW X5 Mk3, Nissan X-Trail Mk2, Jaguar F-Pace, 2015–2020MY Hyundai Tucson, and diesel Nissan Qashqai Mk2.

All owners were asked to provide specific information on the defects they encountered in the past two years of using these cars, the associated repair costs, and service terms. All these variables were taken into account to calculate the final position in the ranking.
