Freelander, a Chinese car brand co-founded between JLR and Chery, has posted the first images of its SUV known simply as the 8. It is a large vehicle that can tow trailers weighing up to 2 metric tons (4,400 lbs), but tips the scales at 2.9 tons (6,400 lbs) itself.
The body dimensions (LWH) amount to 5,185 x 2,050 x 1,898 millimeters (202.8 x 80.7 x 74.7 inches). The wheelbase spans 3,040 mm (119.7 inches). We currently only know about one version of the SUV – a six-seater featuring three rows of extra-comfortable seats. Options include intelligent air-ride suspension, three differential locks and advanced off-road assistants underpinned by a LiDAR and software from Huawei.
Power for the Freelander 8 will be generated by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW). Just how many electric motors there are and how much they output remains unknown. What we do know is that the SUV is slated for launch in the second half of 2026, and Freelander hopes to follow it up with an all-electric version somewhere down the line.
