Lexus has already used an innovative air filtration approach known as the Nanoe X in some cars sold in European countries, but it is official now that the rest of them will be getting the same feature soon.
Co-designed with Panasonic, the technology is said to prevent viruses, bacteria, pollen and allergens in the air inside the car. It also helps eliminate any unpleasant scents by injecting microscopic hydroxyl radicals into the HVAC air stream. The resulting mix dissolves and neutralizes the air contaminants entering the cabin.
An earlier version of the tech was known as Nanoe. The X version mainly differs by the number of hydroxyl radical particles generated: while the old system only injected 480,000,000,000 particles per second, the new one injects ten times as much for no-compromise efficiency.
The first production car that received the Nanoe X air cleansing system in Europe was the 2021 Lexus ES. Later on, it was added to the UX, RX and RZ models as well. The remaining models will all get it in 2023, Lexus says.
