New Mazda EZ-60 costs as little as $15k, but not for most of the world

The mid-size EZ-60 SUV is available in hybrid and all-electric flavors in China now, starting from a surprisingly low 120,000 CNY (roughly 15,000 USD). Even ticking off all the option boxes only bumps the price to 161,000 CNY (22,615 USD), CarNewsChina reports.

The hybrid variant is a range-extender, which means it uses a 1.5-liter engine to generate electricity for an electric motor on board. The motor sends 258 PS (254 hp / 190 kW) to the wheels and has 200 km (124 miles) of all-electric range from a 31.7-kWh battery pack.

The EV uses the same e-motor, but benefits from a larger 78-kWh battery. As a result, it has 600 km (373 miles) of CLTC-rated range.

Running on the EPA platform designed by Changan, the new Mazda EZ-60 is 4,850 mm (189.5 in) long and has 2,902 mm (113.4 in) of wheelbase. It gets 19-inch wheels per the standard spec, but can be outfitted with larger 21-inch rims. Customers are also choosing from seven exterior finish options.

The interior is dominated by a huge 26.5-inch, 5K multimedia display occupying the entire center and right side of the dashboard. The driver gets a 50-inch projected HUD with Augmented Reality features, and a 100-inch 3D projector is listed under options. The front seats have heating, ventilation and massage features installed as standard.

Those sitting in the back row get a dedicated touchscreen panel for accessing the HVAC settings and the infotainment system. The sound system on board consists of 23 speakers and supports the Dolby Atmos standard. Some of the speakers are built into the front seat headrests for a more immersive 3D experience, Mazda says.

It’s unknown whether the EZ-60 will ever be available outside of China.
