Mazda has come to the Brussels Motor Show with a prototype of the part-electric MX-30 R-EV, a range-extender hybrid running on electricity that it replenishes thanks to a rotary engine.
The model is styled as a coupe-like compact crossover SUV barely different from any other inside or out. Like the other models in its range, it has no b-pillars and features rear-hinged back row doors.
From the technical point of view, the car utilizes a 166-PS (164-hp / 122-kW) motor to drive the wheels. A 75-PS (74-hp / 55-kW) petrol engine acts solely as a power generator topping up the 17.8-kWh traction battery on board. The all-electric range amounts to 85 km (53 miles), but once you fill the 50-liter gas tank you get 600 km (373 miles).
Sales in Europe are set to begin this summer.
