Mercedes-Benz CLA reaches production

The third generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLA is in full-scale production now, the company reports.

The new CLA-Class is being assembled in Rastatt, Germany, where the company had previously only manufactured its A, B, GLA and EQA classes. The old CLA had been made in Hungary.

Only all-electric vehicles are being assembled right now, their batteries sourced from Kamenz and their powertrain units from Untertürkheim near Stuttgart. Hybrids are slated to join them on the conveyor belt in the autumn.

At an unspecified date later on, the new CLA is also set to reach China via the local joint venture of Beijing-Benz.
