3rd-gen MINI Countryman JCW touches down with extra power

MINI has unveiled another Countryman version: the JCW, the most powerful petrol spec with a ‘Go-kart Mode’ in the feature list. Only the U.S. base price has been announced so far – $46,900.

The CUV utilizes the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit, but takes advantage of improved pistons, turbochargers and engine mounts. As a result, the UK version delivers 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) to the wheels along with up to 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The U.S. version tops it with 312 PS (308 hp / 229 kW). Both need 5.4 seconds for their standard sprint exercise and reach 250 km/h (155 mph) in a straight line.

Compared to the old generation, the new one wears larger 19- and 20-inch wheels and benefits from stronger brakes. It also has a reworked aerodynamic kit and new light signatures. The paint scheme uses red accents throughout, which continues in the cabin with a black-and-red main trim. The sport seats have integrated headrests.

A special projector mounted behind the infotainment display can be used to cast colored lighting onto the fabric-trimmed dashboard. Those who find the engine rumble too subdued can enhance their audial experience with artificial engine sounds, Mini says. The self-driving tech on board enables drivers to take their hands off the wheel in certain situations.

As for the Go-Kart Mode mentioned above, all we know about it is that it is designed to bring us ‘a particularly sporty experience’. No further details have been revealed yet.
