MINI Countryman gets its cheapest ICE version so far

The new MINI Countryman C packs a three-cylinder turbo engine with an electric starter and drives the front wheels. There will be four trim levels to choose from, but all prices are pending.

The main engine in this new version produces 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque. The starter-generator adds up to 19 PS (19 hp / 14 kW) of its own. The car sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 8.3 seconds and maxes out at 212 km/h (131 mph). It looks completely identical to the other Countryman variants on the outside.

The equipment list mentions roof rails, wheels sized from 17 to 21 inches large, a round infotainment system screen and a recycled polyester trim. The semi-autonomous driving system on board will let drivers remove their hands from the steering wheel briefly at certain road stretches and when moving under 60 km/h (37 mph).

Some time ago, MINI unveiled a Countryman S spec with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood. It makes 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) in its European variant and 241 PS (238 hp / 177 kW) in the U.S. version. All four wheels are driven by default in the S spec. As an alternative, you can consider single- and dual-motor EV variants rated from 204 to 313 PS (201–309 hp; 150–230 kW, respectively). Rounding off the lineup is the 312-PS (308-hp; 229-kW) JCW Edition.
